Overview

Looking to jump start your winter hiking during late fall? Working on your 52 with a view list? Join us for a 3-day adventure during which we will hike to IMP Face and Mount Tremont and stay overnight at the Harvard Outing Club Cabin from Friday to Sunday December 1-3, 2023. Just a 15-minute drive from Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, Harvard Outing Club Cabin is an excellent headquarters for any outdoors activity including hiking. We will enjoy beautiful views and hopefully break out our winter gear. On Saturday, at a moderate pace we will hike Mount Tremont (3371) near Bartlett, New Hampshire. Generally considered a challenging route. At a moderate pace, we will hike 5.6 miles with approximately 2,526? of elevation gain. On Sunday morning, at a moderate pace, we will hike to IMP Face (3123') - climb a staircase into the woods, gradually ascend through an open hemlock forest, pass a small cascade, cross a brook, ascend a ladder, navigate ledges, switchback along the side of a ridge and scramble out to open ledges to an amazing view of Pinkham Notch, Mt Washington and the Northern Presidentials. Both hikes are rated moderate. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out. Hikers should have completed similar hikes, preferably in similar conditions, within the last 3 months. Winter gear is required as is prior winter hiking experience. All participants should have micro spikes and snow shoes. Cost includes only lodging. You need to bring your own food and snacks. Harvard Outing Club Cabin offers loft sleeping space for group trips up to 24 (bring sleeping bags and sleeping pads or air mattresses). The cabin includes a large living area with a gas heater, a kitchen with two gas stoves for cooking, refrigerator, utensils, cookware, cups, and plates, well water with a pump, and an outhouse.
