Joe Dodge Lodge,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,
NH
Join us on this early Winter adventure to Carter Notch Hut. Our adventure will begin with an introductory dinner and meeting at AMC's Joe Dodge Lodge. We'll prepare for our backcountry adventure by focusing on the appropriate gear needed for our trip as well as a review of our itinerary. After a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast, we'll pack into an AMC Van for transport to the trailhead. Guides will point out unique winter naturalist observations along the way. Once we arrive at the hut, we'll have plenty of time to explore the boulder field and beautiful high mountain lakes around the hut with lighter packs before dinner. If timing and weather allows, we can attempt to climb the nearby summit of Carter Dome in the afternoon or the next morning. We'll enjoy a hearty meal in the evening, prepared as a group with the help of the guides. After a night's rest in the all-gender shared bunkrooms and breakfast, the guides will choose a trail down based on weather and interest for the group. We will return to the trailhead and drive back to the Lodge for a final lunch together and say our goodbyes. This trip involves difficult hiking on, at times, steep and rocky terrain. Weather can change quickly and become quite cold and windy. Participants should be in good hiking shape, have proper hiking boots and clothing and be prepared for a White Mountain adventure! Trail conditions this time of year can be variable with potential snow, ice, or bare rock. Hut accommodations are rustic with wood stove heat for the common space and cooking facilities. Bunkrooms are not heated. Program Highlights: • Group of active adults • Hiking in world renowned White Mountains in early Winter • Naturalist observations along the way
