Upon completion participants are qualified to be a leader-in-training alongside an experienced leader or mentor for Hiking/Backpacking, Local Walks and Hikes, Bike, Ski, 20s & 30s, Forty Plus, Family Outings, Paddling, Mountaineering, Windsurfing, and Mountains and Music. The program consists of lectures, small group exercises, and role-play scenarios taught in an in-person overnight weekend session. Topics include trip planning and trip organization, safety, leadership approaches, and group dynamics. The program emphasizes experiential learning and decision making skills. Priority will be given to people who have previously participated in AMC activities. Participants are required to complete 1-2 hours of prep-work prior to the start of the program. Active participation in all parts of the program is required. Training will be held at New England Base Camp in Milton, MA. Check in starts at 7am on Saturday morning, and instruction will finish by 4pm Sunday afternoon. Lodging for the weekend is in personal tents or a shared bunkhouse. Meals will be prepared and shared by the group.

Cost*

Adult: $85 member
*$85 covers all program costs, including one night of lodging, two breakfasts and one dinner. Full refunds (less PayPal transaction fees) will be provided through March 26, 2024. Between March 27th and through April 19th, a refund will only be provided if we can find someone else to take your spot. No refunds after April 19th.

Amy has been hiking in the mountains of New England for 25+ years and has hiked all of the NH 48 4K's. She is currently section-hiking the AT in Maine and enjoys hiking and backpacking trails less-traveled. In winter, she hikes, snowshoes, and cross-country skis.

Judith is a keen hiker and loves to explore the trails in the MA state parks, reservations and town conservation areas. In 2020 she section-hiked the MA Mid State Trail and this year she is completed the Bay Circuit Trail.
