Overview

Spend a blissful week paddling remote streams and creeks in the pristine Adirondack Mountains by day, while base camping near a beautiful lake and sharing decades of river stories at the campfire by night. Beginner canoeists are encouraged to join this amazing annual tradition! Plan to arrive and set up camp on Sunday by dinner time. We will explore rivers in the St. Regis Canoe Area from Monday through Friday. Each one is different and magical in its own way. Novice canoeists will spend Monday on Meacham Lake learning basic strokes with ACA-certified instructors. We depart Friday after the last paddle or on Saturday morning. Bring your own boating equipment, or rent from the club at a very reasonable rate, or rent privately from a local outfitter. Canoes and short kayaks are fine, but no sea kayaks, please. Some paddling experience is a pre-requisite. Canoeists do not need to be expert but should be able to paddle across a windy lake. Kayakers should be able to maneuver their boat in narrow, twisty water with a current, occasionally with a single bladed paddle. Everyone should be comfortable lifting their boat over obstacles with some assistance. Camping is at Meacham Lake Public Campground on tent sites. We will share group dinners. Breakfast and lunches are on your own. Everyone pitches in to share chores. Camping fees and food expenses will be shared. Estimated group cost is $120-150 for the week. The current maximum number of participants is 20, including our volunteer leaders .
