Overview

Welcome the 2024 spring/summer hiking season by joining Chao and Ian for a hike of Mt. Israel (2,636'). On the "52 With a View" list, Mt. Israel sits between the Lakes Region and the southern portion of the White Mountains and features a ledgy, open summit with a great view to the north. Outlooks along the route offer views of the lakes to the south. We will hike Mt. Israel via an out-and-back route covering 4.2 miles round trip with 1,700' of elevation gain. The hike begins with moderate grades and becomes somewhat steeper and rougher as it ascends, with one short rocky scramble near the summit. We will hike at a moderate pace. This hike is appropriate for intermediate hikers who have prior experience hiking other peaks in southern New Hampshire, the White Mountains, or other similar mountain ranges and maintain an active exercise regimen. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out. We will hold Sunday, May 5 as a backup date for this hike if weather conditions prevent us hiking on Saturday, May 4.
