Overview

This trip is part of the Boston Chapter Spring Hiking Program (SHP) and is only open to enrolled participants of that program. This trip in the Watatic Mountain State Reservation Area follows the Midstate Trail to Mount Watatic and combines other trails to create a loop along a variety of terrain. Plan for a slow-moderate pace across approximately 3 miles, gaining approximately 725 feet of elevation. Estimated hiking time for this trip, depending on the group and conditions, is up to 4 hours. Building on the instructional hikes, and getting to know your gear, this outing has extended trekking while adding more total elevation gained during the trip. Breaks will generally be brief and defined for hydration and snacks, with a possible extended lunch. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
