Overview

This trip is part of the Boston Chapter Spring Hiking Program (SHP) and is only open to enrolled participants of that program. Join us on a spring hike to Mount Moosilauke, a 4,000-footer in the White Mountains! The summit of Moosilauke is treeless and offers panoramic views of the Kinsmans, the Presidential Range, and Lake Winnipesaukee (weather permitting). We'll also see the ruins of a 19th-century winter weather observatory. (Cool!) Plan for a moderate pace across 7 miles, gaining approximately 2,500 feet of elevation. Estimated hiking time for this trip, depending on the group and conditions, is up to 7 hours. While this trip is intended for SHP participants, it is rigorous by nature. You may be a good fit for a "Vigorous" trip if you are participating in trips that gradually increase in difficulty level, distance, and elevation gain, including at least one recent SHP trip rated as "Moderate" (or an equivalent outside of the program). A good rule of thumb is to plan hikes at least every few weeks, with one trip at least 2/3 of the distance and elevation gain within a few weeks of this trip. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
