Overview

While not very long, at just over 15 mile total, this is a rigorous loop hike with over 4500' total ascent over 4 days and three nights, 1500' of which is in the first two miles! Parts of the trip are on the Devil's Path trail, which is known to be one of the most challenging in the tri-state area. After climbing up to Devil's Acre, this trek traverses the ridge to Diamond Notch and then over to John Robb Shelter with side trips to Hunter Mountain ski area (Colonel's Chair) and Southwest Hunter Mtn. on herd trails. From there we return to the cars via Hunter Mtn. Water is available near both shelters. Note that while the leaders have general knowledge of the area and trails, this is a scouting trip to gather information for future trips. This trip is rated strenuous and all participants must be seasoned backpackers with experience backpacking in mountainous terrain. There will be rock scrambling and increased exposure on portions of this trail. If you're uncomfortable in these situations, this trip probably isn't for you. If we haven't backpacked together, upon registration please expect a discussion to understand your experience and gear readiness. Please contact leaders to register for this trip.

Leader

I've been hiking and backpacking pretty much my entire life. I've planned and executed adventure trips for groups, including Scouts for years. My goal is to spend as much time off the pavement as possible. My challenge is to convince others to join me.
