Mount Tom State Reservation,
Massachusetts, Connecticut River Valley,
MA
This trip is part of the Boston Chapter Spring Hiking Program (SHP) and is only open to enrolled participants of that program. Our trek in the Mount Tom State Reservation, in Easthampton MA will feature an "out and back" to the summit of Mt Tom (1'202) on the New England Trail (NET) - One of the 11 National Scenic Trails. The Mt. Tom Range boasts some of the best views in the CT River Valley as the traprock cliffs fall away to the west. Anticipate a slow-moderate pace on this 4 mile hike as we gain approximately 1,000 feet of elevation. Estimated hiking time for this trip, depending on the group and conditions, is generally up to 6 hours. Building on the instructional hikes, and getting to know your gear, this outing has extended trekking while adding more total elevation gained during the trip. Breaks will generally be succinct and defined for hydration and snacks, with a possible extended lunch. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
