Overview

It's pollinator season - join us as we read and discuss Paige Embry's Our Native Bees: North America's Endangered Pollinators and the Fight to Save Them. From a review in American Entomologist: Interest in native bees is at an all-time high, as anyone trying to hear all the talks about them at the Entomological Society of America conference can attest. The buzz of activity in the research community is surpassed only by the excitement among the general public, who crave information on how to "Save The Bees!" in their gardens and parks. Paige Embry's book takes readers on an engaging and enlightening tour through current research, outreach, and citizen science on native bees in the United States. Through her account, Embry artfully weaves together descriptions of native bees with accounts of the state of the science from leading research programs. This book will open readers' eyes to the great diversity and importance of these creatures, and what's being done to learn all about their biology. Consider using the library or a local bookstore to obtain a copy of the book. Details: This event will be on the evening of Tuesday, 05/21/24. Exact time and location will be determined the week before the event, with details emailed to registrants. Registration is required for this event. Reading the book is not required. All you need is an interest in nature, conservation, or fellowship. Previous meetings: * 03/24 - Eager: The Surprising, Secret Life of Beavers and Why They Matter by Ben Goldfarb * 01/24 - American Wolf: A True Story of Survival and Obsession in the West by Nate Blakeslee * 11/23 - Fire Season: Field Notes from a Wilderness Lookout by Philip Connors * 08/23 - Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer
