Overview

Please join us for a 2-day moderately-paced weekday backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail in Massachusetts and Connecticut well before the 'bubble' of thru hikers reaches the area. This will be a vigorous hike covering over 18 miles with approximately 4200' feet of vertical gain, including Mt Everett, with its views (hopefully) of Mt Greylock to the north, Mt Race and its rocky ledges and valley views, Sages Ravine, with its series of falls and cascades, and Bear Mountain, the highest point in Connecticut. Day 1 will be approximately 6-8 miles and 1600-2100 ft of elevation gain, depending on which campsite we decide to stay at. Day 2 will be approximately 10-12 miles and 2100-2600 ft elevation gain. For backpackers who have been actively day hiking throughout the winter, this is a great opportunity to bring out the spring gear, see the wildflowers starting to bloom, and escape the snow of the northern mountains! Participants will need to supply all of their own food and gear, including tent, stove, water treatment method, meals, etc. A full gear list will be provided upon approval of registration. We will be staying at an established campsite for our single night on the trail. Participants must have prior backpacking experience, ideally within the last 1-2 years and recent day hiking experience (within the last 4 months). When registering, please ensure that your REGI profile is current, including details of your backpacking experience along with recent hiking experiences in the last 4 months, including dates, approximate distance, elevation gain and approximate time to complete the hike. Having this information will greatly assist the leaders in ensuring the hike is a good fit for participants. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
