Overview

First of a 3 part series on intermediate sea kayak skills. This session will cover strokes, safety, group cohesion, crossing a boating channel, and rescues. This session will take place in Boston Harbor in protected waters but will conclude with paddling around the Inner Harbor Islands. Basic kayaking skills are required, including the ability to confidently wet exit with a spray skirt. Please attend the June 1st Tune-Up on Lake Cochichuate to get ready for this course (posted on the website). A 14 foot (minimum) kayak with fore and aft bulkheads, spray skirt, and PFD, are required. Sessions 2 and 3 will cover navigation, trip planning, and leadership, and will take place in July and August.

Dennis Blejer has been an AMC Boston Chapter leader since 2006. He has led for INTRO, Bike, 40+, and Paddling. He currently leads sea kayak trips and training events. He has American Canoe Association (ACA) certifications in Coastal Kayak Trip Leadership and Open Water Skills (Level 4). He enjoys teaching others to enjoy the outdoors in a healthful way and has hiked, biked, and paddled, throughout the Northeast.
