Unpaved Trails for All in partnership with the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) will be holding an event on June 1, 2024 at the universally accessible trail at the Fort River Division of the Sivio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge in Hadley, MA. The goal of this event is to raise awareness about the need for more unpaved accessible trails in the Commonwealth and support advocacy for the Massachusetts Trails for All Act (S.446, H.769), which was introduced in 2023 by Senator Joanne Comerford and Representative Michelle Ciccolo. On the day of the hike, participants will gather at the Fort River Accessible Trailhead and hear remarks from Senator Comerford and trail users with limited mobility. We will then take a short hike on the Fort River Universally Accessible trail in small groups, stopping two to three times at scenic rest points. There will be handheld trail snacks and water bottle refill stations available. We recommend wearing bug spray at this location. Please register online for the event.
