4-5 miles. The herons are back in their nests, and we can expect to see (and hear) the chicks. There are other things of interest in this park too including a flood control dam, evidence of a former water wheel and a flying club. We will cover most of the trails in the park experiencing a variety of terrain - some rocky with tree roots, others easier underfoot and some wetlands. There is a lot of variety in a small space! Bring binoculars in addition to the usual water, snacks, poles etc. Meet at 9:30am for a 9:45 start. Please REGISTER FOR THIS HIKE by contacting the Leader. Directions: 1887-1971 Newfield Rd, Torrington. From Rte. 44 head south on Rte. 8. Exit 45 then left on Old Winsted Rd. After 1 mile turn right on Newfield Rd at light. The park is 2.4 miles on the left. Heading north Rte. 8 exit 44, left on Rte. 202 and right on Main St. After about a mile bear left at light onto Newfield Rd. 2.4 miles on the left. The brown sign for the park was missing recently.
