Mount Adams,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,
NH
Join us on a trip up to Mount Adams via 2 trails on the terrifying 25 list. We will crawl under and hop over car sized boulders up King Ravine. The Great Gully trail is one of the steepest in the white mountains climbing 1700 feet of elevation in about 1 mile. The AMC guidebook describes it as "remarkably wild and beautiful" but also "extremely steep and rough". After summiting Adams we will decide as a group whether we want to continue onto Madison or return directly from there. Either way, we will descend via one of the less steep trails. Mount Adams alone will be approximately 8.5 miles with 4500 feet of elevation gain. Madison adds an additional 1 mile and 600 feet of elevation. This hike will involve very steep sections, packs off scrambles and lots of elevation. Participants should be in good physical condition and have experience on steep scrambles and exposed terrain. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
