Overview

Overview: Whether you're working on your hiking patches or just love the great outdoors, this trip is for you! Mount Starr King is part of the 52-With-A-View (52-WAV) list, and Mount Waumbek is one of New Hampshire's easier 4000 footers. Get ready for an adventure-filled day as we hike to the stunning peak of Mount Starr King (3,915') and Mount Waumbek (4,011'), one of the easier 4K peaks. Mt. Starr King offers a unique opportunity to view the Northern Presidentials from a different angle. We will be hiking the Mt. Starr King trail to both summits which are below tree line offering further protection from any inclement weather. Grades are moderate and footing is generally good. We will hike at a moderate pace of 1-1.5 mph, making the trip in about 7 hours. What's in Store: •Two Epic Peaks: We'll cover a total of 7.2 miles with an elevation gain of 2,739 feet, perfect for those seeking a moderate challenge. •Breathtaking Views: Enjoy panoramic vistas of New Hampshire's majestic mountains from Mount Starr King. Although Mount Waumbek is experienced in a more forested surrounding it is a stunning soak in the serene beauty of the landscape. •Historical Tidbits: As we take in the views on Mount Starr King, you'll get a fascinating glimpse into the life of the person this mountain is named after. Who Can Join: Everyone who meets the basic requirements is welcome! You don't need to be an AMC member to join us. We'll screen participants to ensure you have recent hiking experience and the right gear to keep you safe and comfortable on the trail. Preparation: About 3 days before the hike, you'll receive an info sheet with all the hike details needed for this trip, including a full gear list. Flexibility: To handle any surprises, like bad weather or trail conditions, we might tweak the trip's destination, activities, or meeting point. You'll have the option to join the modified plan or opt-out if needed. Essential Gear: •Sturdy hiking boots with good traction •Non-cotton clothing layers •Hiking Poles (strongly suggested) •2+liters of water •Lunch and snacks •A backpack to carry everything
