Overview

Well, the porcupines have won, for the moment, the privy battle at the Riga Shelter site! But, not to be outdone, we will execute a new battle plan. This work party will replace the hatches used to access the moldering privy bins where active ingredients are stored and where we compost the business end of things. We will also sister new siding to the old, covering some of the sections that porcupines have feasted on. We will paint sections where it makes sense and then cover our work with hardware cloth and sheet metal to repeal the prickly rodents, or at least make them gnaw on metal. All tools and equipment will be provided. Please bring plenty of water, lunch, and your sense of humor. No prior experience is required. PLEASE NOTE ACTION REQUIRED: Federal agency land management partners enable volunteer service on the A.T. and extend certain protections to volunteers under National Parks Service "Volunteers in Parks" program. If you haven't already signed the required form, you MUST do so prior to participation in this activity. That form can be found at the internet site shown below in 'Related Link(s)'.
