Overview

Step back in time and trek through the spectacular, yet relatively undiscovered Peaks of the Balkans in the Albanian Alps. We hike 9 consecutive days in Albania and Montenegro through lush valleys framed by massive limestone mountains and enjoy three cultural "walking" days. We are accompanied by an English-speaking local guide throughout the trip. Luggage transport (sometimes by horses) allows us to hike comfortably with just day packs. We stay in traditional guest houses and one mountain hut, immersed in local culture with traditional hospitality and meals in historic, authentic quaint stone villages. Expect to be rewarded with first class panoramas of a remarkably diverse landscape, warm Balkan hospitality, and the thought-inspiring modest lifestyle of the locals as we make our way through mountains and valleys, from guesthouses to shepherd huts, one glass of mountain tea to another home-cooked meal, all the while learning about the deep-rooted traditions and complex history of this little-known region on the outskirts of Europe. Be prepared for long, continuous trekking days and at times basic conditions. Two countries worlds apart, but yet together and yours to discover.
