Overview

Meet at 9:00 for a prompt 9:15 start for this 9-mile hike on the trails and former carriage roads of White Memorial. No dogs. Because the trails are quite level, we will hike at about 3 mph. There will be two short breaks. Please be sure that you are capable of doing this distance and pace. Part of the hike is on a boardwalk that can be slippery if wet, so proper hiking footwear with good traction is a must: no sneakers. Poles are optional. Hikers must carry at least 32 oz. of water per person, as well as snacks, sunscreen, insect and tick repellent, personal medications and first-aid supplies. After the hike, those who are interested might go to nearby Arethusa Ice Cream, which is worth every calorie! Meet at the White Memorial Museum, 80 Whitehall Road, Litchfield CT. Drive to the end of the long driveway, and park near the museum. The outhouses are not the most pleasant, so you are strongly encouraged to make a pit stop before arriving. Limit: 12. ALL HIKERS MUST REGISTER WITH LEADER no later than 6 p.m. the evening prior to the hike:
