Hudson MA,
Massachusetts, Berkshires,
MA United States
Beginning near the Northborough-Marlborough boundary and ending behind the fire station in Hudson, this run is about 5 river miles. We will expect to get back to the Holden/Worcester area about 4:00 P.M. The river twists and turns through a scenic valley where one may see ducks, red tailed hawks, deer, etc. There are signs of beaver activity along the way. There are several places where paddlers need to maneuver around fallen trees or other minor obstacles and there are a couple of shallow ledges with clear passages right in the middle of the stream. Sometimes, depending on the weather, we may encounter ice in the places where there is little current. We generally carry on with the trip unless there is bitter cold weather, winds above 20 miles per hour, or a heavy all day rain or snow. Lunch is on a small island part way down the river. Participants are asked to bring their lunch and water bottle, rain gear, and a change of clothes in a waterproof container in case of a capsize. Everyone will be expected to wear a pfd (life vest). Participants are required to sign the Appalachian Mountain Club's "Waiver of Liability" before beginning participation in any Appalachian Mountain Club activities. Loaner boats are available at a nominal charge, arrangements made well in advance. Those interested should inform the leader and on being accepted for the trip need to email [email protected] (cc'ing the leader) with their request.
