386 North St., Hebron, ct,
Connecticut, East of River,
CT
4.5-5.5 miles on leader's choice of red, yellow and white trails. Gay City is the site of an early 19th century industrial community called Factory Hollow. Methodists moved here from Hartford because they objected to puritanism. The community was abandoned in the late 19th century, destroyed by fires and squabbling within the community. The remains of mills and houses, mill sites and stone walls they built along the Blackledge River are in evidence along the trails. There are a couple of gradual hills and lots of rocks and roots. Meet at 10 am at the 1st parking lot after turning into park. Refreshments afterwards at a local restaurant for those inclined. DIRECTIONS: GPS 386 North St., Hebron.
