Not Ultralight but Packing Smart: Keeping weight down for older backpackers. Join Christine Benton, former chair of the NY-NoJ backpacking committee, and Kurt Flehinger, a seasoned bi-coastal backpacker, for an engaging conversation on how they now pack as they continue backpacking as older adults. Christine and Kurt will talk about their experiences backpacking and how they have optimized their gear to be lighter and more well-fitted to enhance their enjoyment of the outdoors while avoiding injury. They will review their gear, identify key strategies for keeping weight down when on the trail, and differentiate between packing for camping and packing for backpacking. They will also touch on water planning, food planning and they will do a gear review.
