Overview

The Town of Lancaster Conservation Commission, The Northern Forest Center, and the Appalachian Mountain Club are teaming up to restore the Heritage Trail through Lancaster, NH! It is approximately 12 miles long, beginning at the Lancaster/Northumberland town line and winding its way through forests, gentle hills, and rural roads to the town line in Whitefield. This Heritage Trail also connects visitors directly to the Lancaster Town Forest. For this volunteer event participants will be installing bog bridges on the Heritage Trail between Reed Road by Weeks State Park and RT 2 near downtown Lancaster. Experienced Appalachian Mountain Club Trails Department staff will provide instruction on the building process. The day will begin with a safety briefing and tool talk and participants will be given an overview of the project. This event is open to everyone, and you do not need any trail work experience to join. We will meet on Reed Road in Lancaster, and cars will be able to park along the road. There will be a short hike to access the worksite. All tools and personal protective equipment will be provided by the AMC. Please wear long boots and pants and bring lunch, water, snacks for the day.
