Overview

Here's a chance to do it all! Kayak at sunrise and sunset enjoying the magic light of dawn and dusk. Hike as the colors turn in the Blue Hills as Autumn envelopes us. We will stay in the little known rustic Cabins of Ponkapoag Camp in the Blue Hills , Randolph: Boston's Back yard essentially . Experience natural surroundings, wood burning stoves, enjoying meals together , and just chill'n. This trip is as close to 'roughing it' without actually roughing it! So if new experiences appeal to you, please join. We will try to limit the group size to ten. Hiking is out the door . We will explore the trails in the area. Please bring non cotton clothing for hiking, rain gear, a warmth layer such as fleece or puffy, hat, hiking boots, head lamp , water and snacks, hiking pack to hold all. Also recommended: Hiking sticks, Map, compass, bug dope( hopefully not needed) and sunscreen. Kayaking is also "out the door". Those wishing to paddle must bring their own kayaks or canoes and paddling equipment . Unfortunately there are no on site rentals. Those participating in paddling should be aware of the cooling water temperatures and dress accordingly. ( wetsuits or dry suits may be required as water temperatures dictate.) PFDs are required. The Cabins have beds with Mattresses. Bring your own pillow / pillowcase and bedding/ or sleeping bag. Cabins also have wood burning stoves. You can bring your own store bought wood or buy from the care taker. No wood from other sources please to avoid introducing non local pests to the area. There are composting toilets but no running water. Bring a few gallons of water for your own use and hand sanitizer. Barbecue pits are available or bring camp stoves. Bring food to share for breakfast , happy hour, and dinner. We will do potluck for Friday dinner. Surprise us with your creations! We will plan Saturday and Sunday breakfasts and Saturday dinner. Food cost for these planned meals will be split amongst all. Bring your own snacks and lunches. For Cabin rentals see the Ponkapoag cabin link below. Cost of cabin will depend on member and nonmember rates as well as cabin size chosen. The cost will be off season three day weekend rate. (AMC members get a 10 % discount) We will try to coordinate cabin requests with the caretaker.
