This hike will be a moderately paced 6 mile out and back hike on the AT. 1,286 foot elevation gain. Highlights include Mount Prospect, Rand's View and Giant's Thumb. Rand's View is one of the best views in CT in every season. You come into a wide open meadow and can see a panoramic view of the Berkshires and beyond. A must see you won't forget. We will start by hiking to Mount Prospect where we will have a brief snack break before continuing on to Rand's View. From Rand's View, we will continue to Giant's Thumb (glacial erratic) before turning around and heading back. If there is an interest we can visit Great Falls which begins at the parking area. These falls almost always flow strong. Please remember to wear appropriate hiking boot/shoes (no sneakers). Trekking poles are recommended but not required. Please remember snacks, plenty of water, sunscreen and bug spray. We will meet at 8:45am for a prompt 9:00am start. Directions - From Litchfield take Rte. 63N to Rte. 126N, turn left onto Railroad Street, right onto Water Street, slight right onto Housatonic River Road. Parking lot on the right.
