Overview

Join us for a beautiful out and back hike to Mt Garfield, 4500-ft peak in the White Mountains and enjoy some of the finest 360 views of the Pemigewasset Wilderness, Franconia Ridge, Presidential Range, and more! This will be a moderately-paced hike with infrequent stops, and we will definitely soak up the views at the top, weather permitting. The hike is ten mile round-trip with 3000-feet of elevation gain and is expected ~8 hours including several short breaks and lunchtime (hopefully at the top!). This hike is rated as strenuous, and requires a good level of fitness and similar hiking experience in the last 3 months. You should be comfortable with steep and rocky terrain, and able to maintain a moderate pace. There will be several water crossings and possibly muddy conditions. The summit scramble can be steep and exposed. As it will be a October hike in the White Mountains, we should be prepared for variable weather conditions, such as sun, rain, wind, and possibly snow. Please bring appropriate clothing and gear, such as layers, rain jacket, hat, gloves, and a headlamp. The summit may be very windy and chilly even on a Sunny day! To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
