Overview

Approximately 7.2 miles. This will be a slightly different version of my Alander Mt. hike. We will hike up the Alander Mt. trail from Mt. Washington SF to the South Taconic Trail and then South to Alander Mt. with its open summit and magnificent views in all directions. Return going North on the South Taconic Trail back to Bash Bish Falls, the highest falls in Mass. Moderate walks along ridge line, but steady climb/descent at both ends of hike. NOTE: Area is open for hunting. Blaze orange apparel suggested. Meet at 8:00 for a prompt 8:15 AM start from the Park & Ride lot across the corner from Saybrook Fish House, at the Jct. of Rte. 179 North and Rte. 44 West in Canton, to carpool to the trailhead. Leader will be leaving from Newington. For other potential carpool meeting locations, contact leader. Those wishing to meet at Bash Bish Falls State Park should be at the lower (NYS) parking lot on Falls Road at 9:30. We will consolidate cars for a carpool to Mt. Washington SF. Co-leaders are welcome. Steady Rain cancels. DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD: From Rte. 41 in South Egremont, just South of junction with Rte. 23, go West, then South, on Mt Washington Rd. about 4.4 mi. Bear slight right at West St. (dirt road), and follow 0.3 mi turning left to remain on West St. Follow for 1.7 mi to Falls Rd. Take a sharp right turn onto Falls Rd. and continue 2.4 mi to lower (NYS) parking lot on left (about 1 mile past upper (MA) Bash Bish Falls State Park parking lot also on left). Leader will be leaving from Newington. For other potential carpool meeting locations, contact leader.
