Overview

Interested in a backpacking trip 'off season' when there are fewer crowds and more solitude on the trail? If this sounds interesting then come and join us for a four day, three night backpacking trip to Harriman State Park where we will traverse the Suffern-Bear Mountain Trail! ** Greg Fogarty is a Leader in Training that is working under the supervision of Chris Bickford ** Day 1: We will meet up in Suffern New York and hike about 6 miles to Stone Mountain Memorial Shelter where we will camp for the night; water is available at a stream near the shelter. Day 2. We will hike about 5 miles crossing several peaks and streams one of which we will collect water at, that we will then carry to Big Hill Shelter, our camp for the night. Day 3: We will hike a little over 9 miles, crossing several peaks, streams and scramble up Pingyp Mountain. Late in the day we will take a detour on the Appalachian Trail where we will collect our water at a stream that we will then carry to West Mountain Shelter, our camp for the evening. Day 4: We will hike a little over 3 miles to the Bear Mountain Inn where we will use a car service on Monday to get back to Suffern at a cost of $15 per person. Participants must be self sufficient and supply all of their own gear including a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, clothing, camping gear and food.

Leader

I love backpacking in all seasons, canoe camping in the Adirondacks, and spend over 2 weeks a year sleeping outside. I've completed over 1,850 miles of the Appalachian Trail and am hoping to have completed the New Hampshire section before our trip!

Leader
