For those who have mastered the basics of three-season backpacking. Instruction on general winter mountain safety, snowshoeing, equipment, proper camp site selection and set up, cooking, trail finding, map and compass, off-trail navigation, weather, trip planning, nutrition, and handling emergency situations. Students will need winter clothing, -20° or lower sleeping bag, and a foam pad. A 3- or 4-season backpacking tent is needed. Group will participate in indoor lectures and evening programs, sleeping outside Friday/Saturday night, and preparing one meal outdoors. Workshop will begin promptly at 6:30pm Friday evening, ending Sunday afternoon around 4:00pm. Fee includes materials, lodging, excellent meals and instruction.
