Experience the beauty and joy of the Maine North Woods in winter. XC skiing from lodge to lodge with stays at West Branch Pond Camps, Little Lyford Lodge and Cabins and finally, Gorman Chairback Lodge and Cabins.. Participants must register for this trip before making reservations as we have a limited number of beds. Contact leader for additional information. X-country skiers with intermediate skills will find this trip enjoyable. We will spend the first 2 nights of the trip at West Branch Pond Camps. We will stay in comfortable cabins as there is no bunkhouse. Some cabins sleep several people and participants are expected to share a cabin with others as necessary. There is a variety of advanced beginner and advanced intermediate ski trails, some on the flanks of White Cap Mountain and others that follow the West Branch of the Pleasant River, Several snowshoe trails are also available. West Branch Pond Camps is privately owned (not AMC) and has been in the Sterling family for over 100 years. On Thursday, we will ski to Little Lyford Lodge and Cabins for a 2 night stay in the co-ed bunkhouse (cabins available also). Possible activities include snowshoe hike to summit of nearby Indian Mountain and Laurie's Ledge overlook. Skiing the Baker Pond loop or the Indian Mountain Circuit Trail. Ski/snowshoe to Gulf Hagas. Explore nearby loop trails around the two Lyford Ponds. On Saturday, we ski to Gorman Chairback Lodge and Cabins for our final 2 nights in the bunkhouse and cabins. Many fun activities nearby including a visit to the summit of 3rd Mountain by ski and snowshoe for the adventurous or a circumnavigation of Long Pond on the Long Pond and other trails for a gentler day out. Even possible glade skiing nearby if we get adequate snow to make that workable. Contact leader for further details and for details on booking reservations.
