Overview

- Mount Moosilauke, via Glencliff (AT) trail. October 16th. Wednesday - Description Mount Moosilauke, is the tenth highest of the NH 4,000 footers. It stands tall and sets somewhat by itself on the Western side of the White Mountains. It looks big from a distance and it is at 4,802 feet. Up top, there is an outstanding 360 degree view from its open summit. You will see the Green Mountains in Vermont to the west and White Mountains to the east. While at the summit, we can look for the old foundations from the Top House Lodge and other buildings that once stood there. -The route We will start the hike on the Glencliff (AT) Trail. At about 2.5 miles the trail becomes steep until the trail levels and merges at approximately 2.9 miles with the old Moosilauke Carriage Road (AT) Trail to the top. This is an out and back hike starting from the trailhead on High St just off NH route 25 in Benton, NH. The round trip distance is approximately 7.6 miles. If time permits, a quick walk up the south peak will bring the total distance to 8 miles. This is a strenuous hike with an elevation gain of 3,333 feet. As this is the "shoulder season" please bring microspikes just in case. Registration is required and a leader will contact you regarding your recent hiking experience and to answer any questions you may have.
