Overview

Registration: required, due to the cap of 10 + leaders AND vehicle shuttling requirement. Please contact [email protected] to confirm and receive GPS coordinates. Overview: 5th of 8 day hike series totaling all 72 NJ miles of AT. Each hike will be opened the week prior and will have at least one co-lead. All hikes classed as "Moderate" ranging from 7-11m at 2m/hr pace. Some volunteers will be needed each hike to meet earlier to drop vehicles at destination parking lot. Volunteer(s) will be shuttled to beginning pt in time for start. We will meet for 10am start where AT crosses Route 519 at a small pull off. The highlights of this section include lots of stream crossings (apx 17), some wetlands and we'll begin our flirtation with the NJ/NY line. We will have a mostly gradual descent from 1100 to 400' with some hills, a scenic view and a ¼m road walk to finish. We may see raptors, and/or wild four leggeds. Bring at least 2 liters water, lunch/snacks, appropriate layers, poles suggested. Expect 5-6 hours hiking + shuttling time. Shuttle volunteers will meet 9:15am at the Wallkill River boat and trail access. IMPORTANT: while the corridor is designated no hunting, we will be passing near hunt permitted land. Please WEAR BLAZE. Rain postpones to TBD date as hope is to complete series in 2024.
