Overview

This hike is designed for rank beginners in winter hiking. The mileage (4-5 miles) and elevation (500-600') will be small as a hike goes and the emphasis will be on learning the ins and outs of managing your hiking in winter. The pace will be slow to accommodate questions and answers as we travel. You will be expected to be hiking regularly. You will have snowshoes and some form of light traction (microspikes). You'll need extra clothing layers, food and water( in an insulated container) all fitting in a backpack large enough to carry it all. You'll need some form of trekking poles or ski poles. The focus will be on maintaining/ managing your heat level through layering and pacing, nutrition and hydration during winter excursions and bits of weather and trip planning information.
