Overview

Track II (moderate to advanced). This is an instructional 2-part event. Full winter gear required! Reference the Track II gear list provided at the 11/02 workshop. Part 1: We will meet indoors at the Wachusett State Reservation Headquarters building. All participants will empty their packs so the leaders, and other participants, can see their gear. We'll provide advice on what is necessary, what will work well, and changes to consider. We will not rush through the gear review as this is important to prepare you for future hikes in the series. Part 2: The hike! ~3-4 miles, average and strenuous terrain, moderate pace (1.5-2 mph). This is an instructional hike designed to provide novice winter hikers with the opportunity to start to hone the necessary skills to hike safely and successfully in winter. Planned route is tbd as it will depend on start time, where we start, weather, and trail conditions. Preference given to first time attendees of the 11/02 workshop. All potential participants will be screened so that you get practice in responding to screening questions and compiling the list of previous hikes you have completed. Limited to 12 (including the leaders) fit and fun loving hikers who embrace winter!
