Overview

Join us for a weekend of backcountry skiing in several Granite Backcountry Alliance glade zones in the White Mountains, while staying at the Evans Notch Lodge in Gilead, Maine. For Saturday, we will likely split into two groups for a full day trip to ski the Baldface or Crescent Ridge backcountry zones, or similar terrain depending on conditions. Half day backcountry skiing on Friday and / or Sunday will likely involve the Cooley Jericho or Maple Villa Glade, but again specific locations will be decided based on backcountry conditions during the event. This trip is particularly geared towards experienced backcountry skiers who are looking to meet new folks and explore challenging terrain. Skiers must have familiarity with their backcountry ski gear and be comfortable skiing black diamond-level terrain under variable conditions. If backcountry conditions are not favorable then the trip will involve resort skiing at some combination of Sunday River, Cranmore, Bretton Woods and / or Black Mountain (Jackson, NH). Participants will be asked about past skiing experience before acceptance. Our group will travel at a moderate pace. All participants should be prepared for vigorous aerobic exercise, likely involving 5+ miles and 2,500+ vertical feet of uphill climbing ("skinning") per day. Lodging and meal costs for the trip are estimated at $260 per person (AMC members; non-members $280), depending on final attendee count. In the event we have to switch to resort skiing, lift tickets for any resort skiing are additional and will be purchased directly by trip participants. Cancellations made by 1/13/25 will be refunded in full minus $50. Cancellations after that date will be only be refunded, less the $50, if a replacement attendee is found.

I enjoy spending time in the mountains, meeting new folks and seeing new sights along the way! Trail running, hiking, backpacking and skiing are my pursuits of choice.

Lifelong alpine skier, casual cross-country skier, hiker and occasional backpacker. Started alpine touring in the early days of Covid (along with many others). I enjoy any opportunity to spend time outside with others in New England. Call me crazy but on ski tours I enjoy the uphill at least as much as the downhill.
