West Mt. is a wonderful hike destination to view fall colors. Vigorous, 8.5 to 9 miles, ~ 1400 elevation, speed (goal) 2 miles/hours. 9AM start, out by 2:30 Directions: take exit 19 of the Palisades Interstate Parkway. There is only one way to go onto Seven Lake Drive - east bound towards Bear Mt. After 500 yards the parking lot is on the right - it is set back from the road and thus hidden. I watch the white line on the road, when it breaks you can turn right. Hike: Start by going up West Mt. taking a little time at each of the 3 viewpoints. Take the newly done AT (with orange dot) down to Beechy Bottom and back up to Cats Elbow to have lunch. We'll catch the SBM to have an easy out on 1777. Early outs are possible.
