Maine, Inland,
ME
Winter lodge-to-lodge trek in Maine's 100-Mile Wilderness - five days and four nights in this pristine wilderness setting, but with all the amenities of AMC's award winning lodges. Our stay is in the heart of the North Maine Woods, with what may be the last remaining truly pristine night skies in the eastern United States. Activities include snowshoeing and X-country skiing on the trails near the AMC Little Lyford and Gorman Chairback lodges and cabins. On day 1, we'll hike/ski from our cars at AMC's winter parking lot near Greenville, Maine, to Little Lyford for two nights. On day 3, we'll hike/ski to Gorman Chairback for two nights. On day 5, it's back to our cars. On days 2 and 4, we'll ski, hike, sled, play in the snow, and lounge. Each evening, we'll relax and socialize. Trails are typically 6-10 miles. Participants must have experience skiing or snowshoeing at least 6 miles in backwoods environments with ascent/descents of at least 400'. Difficulty levels will vary, and leaders will base trail choices on the preferences of the group. This trip will appeal to advanced beginners and intermediate-level skiers and snowshoers. To join this trip, first register on this page. The leaders will get back to you with details for booking your lodging. There are several cabin configurations and lodging options, each with a different participant cost. Here are some examples; all are member rates, excluding taxes, but including the following: four nights' lodging; all meals from arrival dinner thru trail lunch on departure date; gear shuttle to next destination on days when we hike/ski to lodges or cars. (1) Bunkhouse: $450/person. (2) Cabin shared by four people: $570/person. (3) Cabin shared by two people: $710/person. Most cabins can accommodate more than two, which would lower cost. The lodges have bath/shower facilities, but some cabins (at Gorman) have private bath/shower, at a higher cost. Once you register here, the leaders will contact you and get your lodging preferences, then will work with you to assign you a cabin. Please do NOT contact AMC Reservations until you get instructions, including our reservation number, from the leaders. Driving up on Thursday may prove convenient for some, so we will try to arrange an optional stay in the Greenville area. You don't need to be an AMC member to join this trip, but membership will reduce your cost - another good reason to join the AMC!
