Join the leaders as we hike 4080 ft Cannon mountain located in Franconia Notch State Park of the White Mountains. Weather permitting, we will get 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains, including Franconia Ridge. Cannon Mountain used to be the home to the Old Man of the Mountain site until it collapsed on May 3, 2003. We will hike 4 miles up at a moderate/relaxed pace. Parts of the route are fairly steep since we'll gain 2300ft of elevation on our way up over varied terrain. Depending on weather conditions, be prepared for a strenuous 4-5 hour hike and winter conditions with cold, wind, ice, snow, and the possibility of breaking trail. Please be an experienced winter hiker in good physical condition and have recent and similar hiking experience. Conditions permitting, we may be accompanied by Pretzel, the hiking hound. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather or unacceptable trail conditions, the planned trip destination, activity, and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
