Registration: required, due to 10 + leaders cap AND vehicle shuttling requirement. Please contact [email protected] to confirm and receive GPS coordinates. 7th of 8 day hike series totaling all 72 NJ miles of AT. Each hike will be opened the week prior and will have at least one co-lead. All hikes classed as "Moderate" ranging from 7-11m at 2m/hr pace. Some volunteers will be needed each hike to meet earlier to drop vehicles at destination parking lot. Volunteer(s) will be shuttled to beginning pt in time for start. Start time and meeting place TBD, but no later than 9:30a. This hike features the most arduous section in NJ, with a 900' gain in 1st 1.4m to Pinwheel Vista and ends with a 700' descent during last 1.35m. The 8+ miles between will feature milder a/descents. We will hike 9.45m of the AT to the NJ/NY state line marker, turn around, walk 0.1m to the State Line Trail (blue blaze), then to a Greenwood Lake parking lot. Perhaps we will see raptors, and/or other wildlife. Bring at least 2 liters water, lunch/snacks, appropriate layers, poles suggested. Expect 6 hours hiking + shuttling time. Participants in the 24 Oct hike will determine whether we meet at start or finish and shuttle. IMPORTANT: while the corridor is designated no hunting we will be passing near hunt permitted land. Please WEAR BLAZE. Rain/wet conditions postpones to TBD date as hope is to complete series in 2024.
