Overview

Come join us for a Sunday morning hike in Rock Creek Park! Explore Rock Creek Park and start off your December with a hike. We'll take an approximately 4.5-mile loop on a mostly wide but rocky and rooty trail on a route that includes a few short climbs, some nice river views, and three stream crossings (where you can step from rock to rock). This hike is rated easy, and we'll be moving at a leisurely pace. The trailhead is just off 16th Street in NW DC and is accessible by bike, car, foot, or metro bus (16th Street routes). Details will be included in your confirmation email. It may be cold when we begin; the leader will email prior to the hike with an update on conditions. Please dress in layers, if needed, including a hat and gloves, and pack plenty of water and a snack. Online registration on AMC's website is required. Your registration will be confirmed by email from the hike leader; the email will include details about the trip, public transportation options, and the meeting point. AMC membership is NOT required. Group size is limited to 8 people, including the leaders.

I have been an avid hiker and camper for many years. And I love introducing people to the outdoors -- whether hiking, biking, skiing, paddling, or camping. I grew up playing outside in Virginia, and am starting to introduce my two kids to my favorite outdoor spots in the region.

I've been a backpacker and hiker for decades, hiking across the country, parts of the AT, John Muir Trail and the White Mountains. I love all kinds of hiking and sharing that bond with others! As a former REI class teacher, I also really enjoy seeing others learn some of the benefits of outdoor experiences too!

I'm an outdoors enthusiast and the author of Camping Virginia and West Virginia (Falcon Guides). I love sharing my passion for camping, hiking, kayaking, and cycling. To me, nature is a balm for the body, mind, and soul, and I believe there's no better way to recharge than by immersing ourselves in the great outdoors.
