Ever dreamed of hiking the Appalachian Trail without backpacking? Join us as we section hike the Appalachian Trail one week at a time while day hiking and spending nights in hotels. We will shuttle to various trailheads daily to complete portions of the trail. Those that sign up and join us for this first section, and demonstrate the physical ability and group compatibility for future sections, will have a preferential early joining option to complete the full journey. Our intent is to offer at least two trips per year depending upon the success of this first offering and the leaders' availability. We also intend to progress along the trail in order, but this can vary due to the time of year and the expected weather. This trip will day hike the Georgia to North Carolina section of the Appalachian Trail. We'll stay in hotels nightly and hike 7 sections, varying from 6 to 16 miles on the AT. These will encompass early morning starts and some long hiking days. The AT holds many scenic and historical sites along the way, especially in the southern terminus. We will be taking the time to discuss the history and explore these sites along the way. The journey starts by flying into Atlanta, GA and heading to Dahlonega, GA for 4 nights. Over the next 4 days we'll hike AT sections starting with Springer Mountain through Tesnatee Gap. We'll then move to Helen, GA for 3 nights, hiking Tesnatee Gap to Blue Ridge Gap. We will return to the Atlanta airport area for the night before our departure. This will be a relatively small group as due to the long distances involved, the leaders are concerned about keeping the group together and finishing the hikes each day. There are also group size limits when in particular wilderness areas along the AT. We plan on 10 participants and 2 leaders.
