Overview

This trip is part of the Boston Chapter Winter Hiking Program (WHP) and is only open to enrolled participants of that program. If you would like more information about the WHP, please email us at [email protected] This will be a fun* opportunity to figure out how to carry all your winter gear and to ask questions of the leaders concerning equipment any other topics covered in the Winter Hiking Program while hiking on real trails but without the drive to the Whites. We will demonstrate the use of microspikes, crampons and snowshoes. If the weather cooperates, we'll also have a chance to practice heat and energy management. (*While we will have fun, there will be no laughter. Uncontrolled laughter can lead to frost bitten lungs.) To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out. Backup Plan: This is a flexible hike. In case of inclement weather, a shorter loop will be used

Bob is a 4 Season Hiking/Backpacking Leader, and a Local Walks and Hikes Leader for the Boston Chapter. When he's not leading hikes, he's probably still out enjoying the outdoors.

Leader

I have been leading hikes with the Boston Chapter of the AMC since the late 90's. I love the White Mountains; I have hiked across the US, as well as several times overseas on multiday backpacks and hut to hut trips. Love winter hiking as well.

Leader

Bob is an AMC 4-Season Leader with extensive experience on New England's 4K footers and numerous successful expedition summits including Rainier (Kautz and Disappointment Cleaver), Hotakadake (Nagano Japan), Aneto (Pyrenees), Mulhacén (Spain), Pico (Azores) and Mt Yunding (Xiamen China).

Leader

Eric has been a member of the AMC since 2016. He is an experienced four-season trip leader. Eric is very familiar with the White Mountains and has hiked all 67 of New England's 4,000 foot peaks, completed single-day Presidential Range Traverse and Pemi Loops, and has significant backpacking experience. His favorite hiking season is winter. When not leading hikes, Eric enjoys running, skiing, rock/ice climbing, going to concerts, and just about anything else that gets him out of the house.
