Overview

This moderately paced day hike in the White Mountains is an out-and-back route to Mount Liberty,(4,459') and Mount Flume (4,328'). Weather permitting, we will have 360 degree views of the Pemigewasset Wilderness, Cannon and the Kinsmans. We will hike up to Mt Liberty and then continue on for a mile beyond to Mt. Flume. The complete hike including both peaks is about 10.2 miles with approximately 4,250' elevation gain. Though not an official winter hike, we expect winter like conditions so prior winter hiking experience of similar mileage and elevation is required. Expect an early start and steady pace with short breaks for rest/food. If the weather is not suitable for going above tree-line hiking, the leaders will select an appropriate alternative hike in the area. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.

Joe is one of the Boston Chapter's most experienced and active trip leaders - his summit visits number in the quadruple digits. Included among the many outings he leads each year for the Chapter's Hiking/Backpacking Committee are the single-day Presidential Range traverse on the summer solstice, and the Map & Compass course in the fall.
