Overview

This trip is part of the Boston Chapter Winter Hiking Program (WHP) and is only open to enrolled participants of that program. If you would like more information about the WHP, please email us at [email protected] We will hike up Cannon Mountain via the Kinsman Ridge Trail from Franconia Notch at a moderate pace, on a crisp, winter day. We will hike 4.2 miles round trip, with 2200' of elevation gain over. Portions of the route are very steep, and others afford us brief above-tree line exposure with 360-degree views from the summit tower, including a breathtaking angle on the Franconia Range 'across the street' both at the summit and at the Cannon Cliff Outlook and other ledges. We'll also take advantage of our location by warming up, using the bathroom, and most likely eating lunch at the full-service summit lodge before we descend. Full winter gear is required for this trip, including snowshoes, microspikes, and crampons (may or may not use these depending on conditions). To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out. Backup plan: Alternative destination is weather dependent. Lonesome Lake
