Overview

Join us for a Sunday hike to summit North Tripyramid (4180ft) and Middle Tripyramid (4140ft), two of the NH48. We should have great views en route of the North Slides, and hopefully snowpack-enhanced views of the Sandwich Range Wilderness and beyond from the summits. Total distance is ~13 miles, with approx 3500 feet of elevation gain. We plan to hike at 2+mph, slowing it down on the climbs, for a targeted hiking time of 9 hours, though conditions on the day could extend this. We plan to take less-traveled routes so there's a good chance we'll be breaking trail. You should be an experienced winter hiker comfortable with such terrain and conditions, and come prepared with appropriate 4-season gear including mountaineering snowshoes, microspikes and layers, and with fitness built up by recent hikes of similar distances and elevation gains within the past 3 months. Winter daylight hours will be scarce; we'll start early and expect to finish in daylight, but working headlamps are required in case the hike takes longer than expected. See link to AMC's recommended 4-season gear list below. The planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified to address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.

Paula hiked all of the NH48 in 2024, and is now keen on completing her winter 48. When not in the Whites she can often be found in Lincoln MA, running trails or fussing over peak-bagging spreadsheets.
