Waterville Valley Ski Area,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,
NH
Join us for a day hike to Mount Tecumseh, the shortest of New Hampshire's official 4000 footers. This difficult out-and-back trail offers beautiful views of the Waterville Valley. Our +/- 5.5-mile hike starts with a moderate grade through the forest, along the Mount Tecumseh Trail. At about a mile in, the trail becomes steeper, climbing steadily to the main ridge. From the ridge, there is a short and steep climb to the summit, which has a nice view. After a short break, we will descend a quarter mile on the Sosman Trail and then, time and conditions permitting, we will hike south along the ridgeline to the top of the Waterville Valley ski area, which offers great views. We will then return to the Mount Tecumseh Trail for the rest of our descent. We will hike at a moderate pace for the terrain, with ample short breaks along the way. Total trip time is expected to be about 5 hours. This is a Track II (Beginner to Intermediate) winter hike, and a perfect opportunity to refine the skills you learned at the Winter Hiking Workshop. Preference is given to November workshop attendees. Expect a phone call/email from one of the leaders who will ask questions to determine whether the hike is a good fit for you. Proper hiking footwear, snowshoes, and Microspikes are required. Please refer to the Track II Gear List from the Workshop. Severe weather cancels. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather or unacceptable trail conditions, the planned route may be modified by the leaders either before or during the hike.
