Overview

Join us on a winter hike to the summit of Killington Mtn to celebrate the Winter Solstice. Hiking a New England summit has been an annual event for more than a dozen years. We plan on the hike taking about six to eight hours at a steady moderate pace. With solstice at 4 am, we'll have no late start on this hike. Expect to be at the trailhead for an early start. We plan to include Pico Peak on this hike. The distance is estimated to be 12-14 miles with ~3,500' of elevation gain. Plan on bringing and wearing snowshoes. We will determine at the trailhead whether we start with snowshoes or light traction. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out. Photo: Sunset from The Bulge on our 2021 winter solstice hike.
