Overview

This Cycles of Life Series will meet monthly, Sunday mornings, at the Broadmoor Massachusetts Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary in Natick, MA. Walking the same land and practicing in familiar sit spots offers the opportunity to become intimately attuned to how a particular environment changes with the cycles of seasons. We will experience the shifts in light and shadow, the migration of birds and the life spans of insects, native animals and plant life. We may be curious to notice the responsiveness of our own inner landscape to that through which we traverse and on which we rest. Each month we will begin our walk at the Sanctuary Center and follow the path along the pond, continue through forest, meadow and even riverside. Though the intention is to follow the same route monthly, we will adapt according to the weather and conditions of the trails. October's walk began with a distinct chill then warmed up considerably throughout the walk. We were able to lie on the ground feeling both the warmth of the sun and the coolness of the earth offering a wonderful sense of connection to all the elements as we practiced a gentle body scan and relaxation exercise attuning to the world around us. November is unlikely to offer us the warmth of that October day but will undoubtedly bring us more deeply into the mystery of life as it unfolds. Since this walk will be held just prior to Thanksgiving the theme will be one of gratitude and wonder.
