Overview

Join the Appalachian Mountain Club for an unforgettable guided lodge-to-lodge cross-country ski trip through the stunning landscapes of Maine's 100-Mile Wilderness. This adventure provides a supportive and inclusive atmosphere as you explore the beauty of winter in the heart of the Maine Woods. Day 1: The journey begins in Greenville, Maine, where you'll meet your group and knowledgeable AMC Guides. After an overview of the trip and gear needs, you'll board AMC transport to the trailhead, where your gear will be shuttled ahead via snowmobile to the cozy Little Lyford Lodge. Set off together on groomed trails, enjoying a comfortable pace as your guides point out fascinating animal tracks and share insights about the local ecosystem and AMC conservation initiatives. You'll cover approximately 6-7 miles (depending on route and trail conditions) while savoring a bagged lunch amidst the serene winter landscape. Upon arrival at Little Lyford Lodge, your gear will be waiting, and you'll settle into your private cabin warmed by a crackling wood stove. Gather for a hearty family style dinner prepared by the lodge staff, sharing stories of your day's adventure. Day 2: Today, you'll ski approximately 6.5 miles to Gorman Chairback Lodge, with your gear again shuttled ahead. Experience the tranquility of the winter woods as you glide along the trail, discovering the peacefulness of the snowy landscape. Upon arrival at Gorman Chairback, situated at the edge of an expansive frozen pond, your cabin will be ready for you to unwind. Enjoy a glass of wine or beer from the lodge while you reflect on the day's adventures. Gather for another delicious family-style dinner, savoring the camaraderie of fellow skiers. After dinner, consider warming up in the sauna, available at both lodges, a perfect way to relax after a day outdoors. Day 3: You'll have the opportunity to explore the surrounding trails with Gorman Chairback Lodge as your base. Depending on the group's interest, you can choose to ski or snowshoe, immersing yourself in the beauty of the winter landscape. Return to the lodge in the afternoon to unwind and enjoy a sauna before dinner and evening naturalist program. Day 4: On your final day, you'll embark on an 8-mile ski out from Gorman Chairback back to the trailhead. Group will be transported back to Greenville for final goodbyes and departure. This trip promises a wonderful blend of outdoor exploration, community spirit, and expert guidance, ensuring a safe and joyous experience in the breathtaking winter wilderness of Maine. Note: It is helpful to have some experience with classic skiing on groomed terrain, including some familiarity with hills. Trail conditions may vary, and our guides are available to offer tips and tricks to enhance your experience.
