We will cover 5 miles of varied terrain with a mix of meadow, farmland, wooded ridge and wetlands at a moderate 2 miles per hour pace. Meet up time is at 9:15am for a prompt 9:30am start. We will begin by going around part of the hayfield loop until we enter the woods to continue on the Meeker trail. There is a nice view on the Meeker trail at the Macricostas lookout - elevation 1,092 ft. From there we will continue on to Waramaug's Rock where we will have a snack break and enjoy the view of Lake Waramaug which is the second largest natural lake in CT. We will head back from Waramaug's Rock until we arrive at the Boulders trail. After the Boulders trail, we will continue on the orange blazed trail and back to the hayfield. Once we exit the woods, and are back at the hayfield, we will turn left and follow the hayfield for about 7 minutes to visit the observation deck at the swamp before heading back to the parking area. Please wear appropriate hiking boots/shoes (no sneakers). Remember to dress in layers, bring gloves and a hat and remember to bring plenty of water, snacks, bug spray, sunscreen. Trekking poles are suggested but not mandatory. Directions - just north of Rte. 202 opposite the junction of Rte. 47. Parking lot is behind the red house on Christian Street.
